Will gained weight again! He's up to 4 lb 8.5 oz, just a hair over 4 1/2 lbs! His feedings are up to 38 CC and he did really well at nursing today. He's been making so much progress the doctor gave the order that nurses can try a small amount of bottle feeding with him to work on suck/swallow/breathe. He got a 10 CC bottle last nigh tbut had some desaturation episodes with it since he was paying attention to eating and not breathing. So doing very well.
We have a little drama in the neighborhood. A cougar has set up residence, apparently that's what has been picking off my chickens. It's a juvenile and has taken a couple neighborhood cats and my neighbor's dog. We're concerned for the neighbor's small children, and also because it has been spotted right along a creek by the back of their property, and on the opposite side of that creek is a park with a playground. It has also been seen very close to several houses and broke into another neighbor's chicken coop and wiped them all out. Mine are free range so they're not sitting ducks as much and a few are still around. Fish & Game has been contacted and said they'd put out traps but hasn't done anything. We got permission to shoot it, so my neighbor has been trying to catch it and has a friend who is going to bring trained dogs to tree it. He checked out our property and found chicken remains and lots of crushed down areas with fresh tracks under a tree not too far from our house, I thought I saw something there this morning but had convinced myself I was imagining things because I heard about it last night and was nervous - guess I really did see it! There is also a fresh trail going next to an existing deer trail around most of my pasture. So we're a bit nervous about that! I picked up some ammunition from my dad's, I haven't done much shooting in a while so I'm a rotten shot but I have it just in case.
